Your Healthy Knees
One of the biggest problems in sports is proper mechanics with leg movements. Many times over an individuals lives they run across coaches who think they know what they are doing when they really don’t. Many of these coaches are sport coaches who have a passion for fitness, with no education or experience outside of what their coach did with them. They may even assume, because their team did well their program was solid.
Wins come from more than just a good strength program. However, a solid strength; conditioning program can produce teams that win, scholarships awarded, and championships won. If we go back to the basic of athletic movement we see the athletic stance aka squat stance is paramount to all movement in athletics. It does not matter whether you are fielding a baseball, taking down a wrestling opponent, or deadlifting 1000 pounds. That position must be mastered.
Much of the time kids and adults learn incorrect movement patterns which translate in to less than average performance. For example, squats done incorrectly shift weight too far forward on the toes and the knees cave in. This can lead to tremendous knee and ankle injuries. In order to prevent that one must constantly be on the lookout for ways they can perfect their form. This can be done by learning how to land properly from drop landings, jump landings, or various cutting and explosion drills. The key is to keep your legs back and use your lower body as a shock absorber to your system. Through doing this you have great motor patterns and success in your life.
Just something to think about. Ever heard the story about why the ham was cut with the end off of it? It all goes back to great grandma not having enough space in her oven. Sometimes we do things that make no sense, because that’s all we have ever known. It’s time to stop that and move our life and performance forward.
